Records are useful because they preserve what happened. They become dangerous when an old failure is treated as the complete and permanent identity of the person who caused it.

The thought
Mercy does not erase evidence or expose someone else to repeated harm. It keeps truth and possibility in the same room. Accountability names what happened; mercy asks what repair, boundary, and change can still make possible.
A task for today
In one judgment today, separate the act, the harm, the present risk, and the person. Decide which boundary is necessary—and which punishment is only habit.
