Held Tide
A small shoreline inside an old cassette recorder.

Keyboard and accessible controls
Press Play to let the tide move.
Tap the keys on the recorder, or use these keyboard controls: Space pauses, ← rewinds, P plays, → advances, S stops / ejects, R records. Stop twice opens the lid; tap the lid or press Stop to close it. Rewind and Fast Forward latch until stopped or the end is reached. Drag the right-edge volume wheel up or down, or use the volume slider. Sound begins off.
Record holds up to eight seconds of this tide in this page. Play replays it. Record while stopped erases it. Recording never accesses your microphone or uploads anything. The held segment disappears when you leave this page. The same tide film and sound run in both views.
The record is smaller than the world.

A worn cassette recorder holds a small shoreline. The machine was built to preserve sound; here it holds something that won't stay still.
